NEW DELHI, Sept 16: In a case of dowry death, a married woman was brutally beaten up and strangled to death for not been able to fulfil her husband’s demand for a motorbike and a cash of Rs three lakhs.

Meena was married to Sundar, a resident of Baikheda village in Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh, some two years back. Right from day one of the marriage Sundar kept harassing her demanding on her to bring a bike and cash from her parents.

Unable to meet his demands, she left for her parents’ house in nearby Soharka village and was staying there since the Rakshabandhan day. But Sundar kept visiting her almost every day and often took his meals at his in-laws place.

Sunder also kept pressing her to return to her husband’s house. Thinking that he has mellowed down and will not be pasting for dowry anymore, she returned with her husband on Sunday night.

But the moment they stepped in, Sundar was back to his old self and started cursing her for not bringing dowry with her. He kept beating her up mercilessly and later strangled her to death and fled from the house. Locals informed the cops about the murder, after which the woman’s family reached the police station demanding the arrest of the accused.

Her father, Vijay Khadak Banshi, later filed a complaint against the husband, his mother, sister, and four others. A police case has been filed based on her family’s complaint, said a senior official. The woman’s body has been sent for post-mortem while a search is on for the accused.
