New Delhi, July 23: Women’s T20 World Cup will expand to 12 teams for the 2026 tournament, scheduled in England, and increase to 16-nation competition for the 2030 season, the media reported on Monday.

The International Cricket Council said, “The ICC board has approved the expansion of the Women’s T20 World Cup to 16 teams in 2030, aligning with its ongoing commitment to equity between the men’s and women’s games.”

In the first edition of the tournament in 2009, only eight teams participated, and England won the tournament.

Five years later, the tournament grew to 10 teams in the 2014 edition, held in Bangladesh.

This year, it will take place in Bangladesh from October 3 to 20 in which 10 teams will participate. In this tournament, Australia has a chance to break the record of winning a record-extending fourth successive title.
