New Delhi: The US-based virologist on the Covid-19 pandemic considered vaccination progress as the ‘strongest’ weapon against the virus, he said that “the pandemic cannot go on forever, and its end is pretty near.”
Dr. Kutub Mahmood – a scientist and Virologist from Washington said, “The virus will go in hiding and people will actually win.”
“I would say as an analogy between the virus and the humans. So, that virus is putting out its moves. We as humans are putting out our moves. We have small moves which are the facemask, hand sanitizers, social distancing. We have weapons that we have used against the virus with the vaccines, the antivirals, and the antibodies.” Dr. Mahmood told the media.
Lauding India for achieving 60 percent vaccination within a year, the virologist called it a really great achievement for the country and for the Indian vaccine manufacturers.
On completion of one year of India’s vaccination drive, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday called it the “most successful in the world”. Mandaviya also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for launching the campaign last year.
Calling Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin a “unique product”, the virologist said that it has also shown safety in 2-year-old children.
India is witnessing a massive spike in COVID-19 cases with a high positivity rate. On Thursday, 2,68,833 fresh COVID-19 cases and 402 fatalities were reported. On Friday, India logged 2,64,202 fresh COVID-19 cases.
