New Delhi: Indian female weightlifter, Punam Yadav failed to complete the 76kg finals on Tuesday, August 02, 2022, and lost the opportunity of winning her third consecutive CWG medal.
Yadav started on a faulty note as she failed to lift 95 kg in her first snatch attempt. However, she successfully lifted the weight in her second attempt and equalled her personal best and national record of 98 kg snatch in the final attempt to stay as a medal contender.
Unfortunately, she again faltered in her first clean and jerk attempt in failing to lift 116 kg. Unlike the first round, Yadav was unable to recover in the next two attempts. Though she lifted the 116kg weight in her third attempt, she let go of the bar before the referees signalled.
When she earned a bronze in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, she made headlines as a multiple Asian junior medallist and Commonwealth junior champion.
Yadav has won the Commonwealth Championship in 2015 and bagged her first gold at the Commonwealth Games in 69kg in 2018 at Gold Coast, Australia.
