New Delhi: Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday launched the ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign to promote Electric vehicles in the national capital.
Through the ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign – CM Kejriwal appealed to people to buy such vehicles to combat pollution in the city. “AAP government will hire only electric vehicles for various purposes in the next six weeks,” he said.
Kejriwal asks resident welfare associations, malls and cinema halls, delivery chains and big companies to promote and set up charging stations at their premises.
Further Kejriwal added that “I also want to appeal to the youth to buy an electric vehicle as their first vehicle and I want people to make the campaign a mass movement.”
The Delhi government’s electric vehicle policy is considered one of the best in the world and it is high time now to implement it with commitment. In the ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign, awareness will be created about the benefits of electric vehicles and how it can contribute to making Delhi clean and pollution- free Delhi, he added.
The Delhi government has planned to provide extensive subsidies on purchase of electric two-wheelers and four-wheelers under electric vehicle policy.
According to the official data more than 6000 electric vehicles have been purchased in Delhi since the policy was launched in August 2020.
The government has also issued tenders for setting up 100 charging stations across the city and has fixed an ambitious target of 25 per cent electric vehicles among total vehicle registrations in Delhi by 2024, Kejriwal said.
