15-member NC delegation meets Farooq, Omar; PDP leaders defer meet with Mehbooba
New Delhi: While National Conference leaders met party President Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar on Sunday, a delegation of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deferred meeting with party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Monday for inexplicable reasons.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government had permitted the two parties’ leaders to meet their top leaders, who were put under preventive detention hours before Parliament annulled the Article 370 on August 5.
Two months later, an NC delegation was allowed to meet Dr Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar, both former Chief Ministers. Earlier, Dr Abdullah had been allowed to meet family members. While 81-year-old Dr Abdullah is under house arrest at his Srinagar residence after being booked under the Public Safety Act, Omar was detained at a state guest house.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the PDP deferred a scheduled meeting of its delegation with party president Mehbooba Mufti, who is also under detention in Srinagar.
However, no reason was given for this sudden change in the plan. Officials said, however, the visit has been deferred because of lack of unanimity on the composition of the delegation.
The visit, if materialised, would have been the first meeting of PDP leaders from Jammu with Mufti.
The NC delegation discussed developments in the state and upcoming Block Development Council (BDC) polls during the separate meetings with the Abdullahs.
