Gandhinagar: Home Minister Amit Shah cast his vote along with his family in Gandhinagar on Sunday as polling for Gujarat’s local body elections began, with senior leaders across the state urging citizens to participate in large numbers.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also exercised his franchise in Ahmedabad, describing the day as a “festival of democracy” and calling on voters to fulfil their civic duty.

Gujarat Minister Harsh Sanghavi voted in Surat and expressed confidence in strong public participation. Speaking to reporters, he said voters across the state were coming forward to strengthen the development-focused politics led by Narendra Modi.

“The people of Gujarat are ready to write a new history together. Citizens are voting enthusiastically, and this will accelerate the pace of development,” Sanghavi said, describing the collective effort as “Team Gujarat.”

BJP MLA Rameshbhai Tilara cast his vote in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation elections and urged voters to turn out in large numbers, linking participation to the broader vision of a “Viksit Bharat.”

The elections are being held across key urban centres, including Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, and Rajkot, along with over 84 municipalities, 34 district panchayats, and 260 taluka panchayats.

State leaders, including Patel, reiterated appeals for “100 per cent voting,” stressing that participation in local self-government elections is key to grassroots development.

Counting of votes is scheduled for April 28.
