NEW DELHI, Oct 9: Twenty-one skilled artisans from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra joined hands to create a world record-breaking “roti” made of some 180 kilogrammes of dry flour. The effort shown live online besides being in front of an audience was performed at the Hari Seva Udasin Ashram in in Bhilwara in Rajasthan.
One of the artisans explaining the process said, “We took 120 kgs of dry aata and added 10 kgs of ghee and 10 kgs of maida in it. The dry weight amounted to be 180 kgs. The roti with a diameter of 11.25 feet and weighing 171 kgs was made.” He said to prepare the record-breaking roti skilled workers from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra used special equipment.
A spokesman of the Ashram, Mahant Hansram Mahamandaleshwar said, “It is an 11.25 X 11.25 ft in size whose tawa is 12 ft X 16 ft. The rolling pin is 20 ft long, and it is being made by 21 artisans. The oven was made with 2,000 bricks. There is 1000 kgs of coal. The food was cooked after the fire was lit with ghee, camphor and reciting the ved mantras,” he said.
The making of the roti was live streamed for an online audience, even as spectators gathered in person to witness the world-record attempt. “We have had a world with the International Book of Records and the Limca Book of records, and gotten ourselves registered. The World Record made in the Guinness book of World Records in 2012 was a 145 kg roti, and a diameter of 10 ft X 10 ft. We will break that record and make a new world records,” the spokesman said.
At the end, the roti was distributed with Panchkuta sabzi- a special side dish from Rajasthan. Till Monday evening, it was not confirmed if the Bhilwara effort has found place in the world record.
