NEW DELHI, Nov 5: A terrorist has been killed and another is believed to have been trapped in an ongoing gunfight in the Ketsun forest area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora, sources said on Tuesday. The sources also said the terrorist trapped may already have been shot dead.
There is no official confirmation as yet but the official sources confirmed that an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Ketsun forest area on Tuesday. They added that an exchange of fire from both sides is underway at the spot.
In a related incident, the Jammu and Kashmir police along with 22RR and 92 BN of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Tuesday apprehended one terrorist associate identified as Ashiq Hussain Wani, a resident of Tujar Shareef in J-K’s Sopore, said police.
One pistol along with seven live rounds and one magazine were recovered from his possession, said police. The crackdown on terrorists comes after twelve people, including one woman, were injured in a grenade attack at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) and weekly market in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar on Sunday.
Srinagar Police have invoked sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against those involved in the attack. J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the grenade attack, saying there can be “no justification for targeting innocent civilians.”
On November 2, two terrorists were killed by security forces during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The encounter broke out after security forces initiated an anti-terrorist operation in the Halkan Gali area.
