8-Month old Girl Dies after Putting Mobile Charger in Mouth

NEW DELHI, Aug 2: In a very shocking incident, an eight-month old girl tragically died after being electrocuted from a mobile charging socket hanging from the wall and kept switched on by the parents at Siddhar in Karwar taluka in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka on Wednesday.

The police said the mobile charger socket was plugged in at the house of Santosh Kalgutkar and Sanjana Kalgutkar in Siddhar. The family members did not switch off its power supply. Unfortunately, their 8-month-old daughter, Sanidhya who was playing next door at the time, put the pin of the charger in her mouth while playing.

She got a strong electric shock and the girl screamed loudly. Hearing her voice, the family came running. They tried to save her, but failed.

Police said the girl was rushed to the district hospital, but doctors declared her brought dead. Father Santosh Kalgutkar was shocked when he heard the news of his daughter’s death and fell unconscious. Kalgutkar was admitted to the primary health centre at Siddhar.

Santosh Kalgutkar is working as a contract employee in HESCOM. Sanidhya was their third child and the tragedy occurred when they were celebrating the birthday of the second daughter. A case has been registered in the rural police station in this case.

In a similar incident, a four-year old boy had died after sucking at a mobile charger pin in Chikkamagaluru district, also in Karnataka, in February, 2018.
