NEW DELHI, July 28: A 25-year-old man died of heart attack while playing Badminton at the Nagole Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Gundla Rakesh, collapsed during the game. CCTV visuals of the stadium show Rakesh collapsing and those around him trying to perform CPR. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but Doctors declared him brought dead.
Rakesh hailed from Thallada village in Khammam district and was the son of former deputy sarpanch Gundla Venkateshwarlu. He was working at a private company in Hyderabad.
Karnataka’s Hassan District alone last month reported four heart attack-related deaths in a single day, pushing the region’s cardiac death toll to 22 in just 40 days.
What’s alarming is the rising cases of death occurring due to heart attacks in youth particularly. Out of the 22 deaths recorded in Hassan district, five were between the ages of 19 and 25, and eight were between 25 and 45—the age group witnessing the most unexpected fatalities.
Jayadeva Hospital located in the state’s capital city, Bengaluru has reported an 8% surge in cardiac-related outpatient visits over the last two weeks, especially from Hassan and nearby districts. Many patients are opting for precautionary check-ups out of fear, doctors say.
